Why You Should Add Ghee To Your Diet

Ghee- a healthy fat that you should be adding into your diet!

Have you heard of or used ghee? Used for many many years in Indian cooking and Ayurvedic practices, ghee is an amazing healthy fat that deserves a place in our diet. Similar to butter, ghee technically is butter that has been heated to remove the milk solids and simmered to enhance it’s natural buttery flavor. This process is why people who are allergic to dairy can usually handle ghee.

Three benefits of ghee:
  • It has a high smoke point. The process of making ghee removes the milk solids which is what causes the burning of butter at a higher temperature. It’s important to use the right kinds of fat when you are heating them up. Coconut oil, Avocado oil or ghee are all great options.  Try roasting your vegetables with ghee, the flavor is delicious!
  • Gut healing properties: Ghee contains butyric, a short chain fatty acid that acts as a detoxifier. Those suffering from IBS, Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis have seen positive results using ghee. Butyric acid supports the health and healing of cells in the small and large intestine. It is also the source of fuel for the cells lining the interior of the large intestine or colon.
  • Reduces Inflammation. Many diseases and health concerns are directly related to high inflammation in our bodies. By keep that to a minimum, it creates a healthy, strong body.

There are many benefits of ghee. From the 3 listed above to aiding in weight loss, cleansing, being rich in fat soluble vitamins; there are many reasons to use this in your everyday healthy lifestyle.

You can replace butter with ghee in most anything. I like to saute vegetables, use it in soup recipes and fry my eggs with it. For my dairy-free friends who are missing butter, please try it! Good chance it will give you the flavor you are looking for.

What kind of ghee to buy?

You want to look for one that has been made with grass fed or organic butter. The quality of the milk/butter used does make a difference in the nutritional quality. Most grocery or health food stores do carry it or you can find it here on Amazon.

Go out and buy some of this amazing goodness and let me know what you think!
