DIY Infused Water Recipes

We all know we should be drinking water. Good chance more water than we are. But what if you don’t like just plain ole’ water? You probably will reach for the many flavored waters that are on the market.  You may be thinking, “sweet, I’m drinking water instead of Coke so this will be better for me”. I love your train of thinking and for making that switch from Coke to water. Sadly, many flavored waters on the market are filled with artificial sweeteners, flavors and preservatives. 🙁 I’m sorry if I just bummed you out. But take heart because in this post I will be sharing easy DIY infused water recipes you can make at home plus one company that sells legit flavored sparkling water.

There are many reasons why making DIY infused water is awesome. Here are 4.
  1. You get to experiment with a variety of fruits, veggies and herbs to create a combination you love.
  2. It will contain no added sugar and will totally help keep you healthy through the hot summer months.
  3. It’s easy, delicious, simple and makes you feel like you’re having a day at the spa.
  4. If you grow your own herbs, this is a great way to use them up.

But in all seriousness, making your own infused water at home is super easy! All you need is fresh fruit, vegetables or herbs and a cute water pitcher or jar (cute part is optional).

How to make infused water at home:
  1. Cut up desired fruits/vegetables/herbs. (See list below for some tried and true favorites.)
  2. Add to a big jar or pitcher. Something like this is fun!
  3. Infuse for at least 2 hours in the refrigerator. Overnight is better to get it nice and flavorful.

Recipe notes:
  • If you like your water sparkling, prep your fruit/herbs, muddle in bottom of glass, add ice and plain sparkling water (check your labels: I like this one!). Here is one I make regularly.
  • The more produce you use, the stronger the flavor will be. Experiment to find a flavor you prefer.
  • Most combos will last for at least 24 hours. You can always refill your jars using the same produce. FYI: cucumbers and strawberries don’t last as long as some.

As promised, let’s quickly chat about the best (in my opinion) company out there that is making sparkling waters: SPINDRIFT. Their waters are made with real squeezed fruit, contain no added sugar or natural flavors. Food for thought: why are other sparkling waters always clear? Like when is fruit juice clear? That’s what I love about Spindrift, their transparency and yes, their raspberry lime sparkling water (one of my favs) is a beautiful pink color because, well that’s what happens when you juice raspberries. 😉
